Zinc provides architectural services, for your building project, the way you prefer. Our goal is successful delivery of projects through a service tailored to your needs. Whether you require a little advice, a feasibility or full architectural design and management.
Zinc promotes flexibility so you get what you
need – design excellence, within budget, on time and we can manage this from
start to finish.

Our approach to sustainability is to minimise the negative environmental impact of buildings by efficiency and moderation in the use of materials, energy, and development space. We advocate conscious attention to energy and ecological conservation in our designs. We would like to ensure that our actions and decisions today do not inhibit the opportunities of future generations.

We would help you make sense of sustainability, low-carbon emissions, passive design, embodied energy, LZC technology, monitoring and cut through the jargon.

Our practice is passionate about architecture, design and creativity and strive to achieve this with everything we do.

On these pages you will find a portfolio of work demonstrating our design and management experience through a variety of schemes ranging from a logo design to a large healthcare campus. The case studies and images have been taken from designed schemes whilst employed in the capacity of an architect at local practices, as credited within the projects pages, or from our own portfolio.

Zinc Architecture was founded in 2013 by Pierre du Toit, an architect from South Africa with 14 years of experience in the United Kingdom. He has been working in the capacity of an architect within the Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, West Midlands and Birmingham areas, but has also successfully completed building and other architectural projects in Yorkshire, Leeds, Harrogate, Paris and Munich. Projects have ranged from exhibition stand designs for surf wear outfits, extensions, residential conversions, pub refurbishments, care village design and build to a number of large health centres, a church and an award winning church hall.

As a registered architect in South Africa Pierre has acted as design architect and project manager on a new build safari lodge style house in Leopard Creek, near the Kruger National Park, Malelane Gate, as well as two private houses on golf estates in Pretoria.

At Zinc we aim to specialise in the residential sector - primarily on one-off houses, apartment conversions, residential master planning and extensions.

The practice of architecture, especially within SME sized outfits demands all round knowledge and skills. We have a track record that demonstrates an understanding of the demands of modern construction in the areas of structure, building services, sustainability (through in depth experience of BREEAM and IES), planning and building regulations. Working with clients such as the NHS, Mencap, St Richard’s Hospice, The Church of England and Birmingham Council we understand that decision making is never straightforward and organisations can be as eccentric as individuals but our design presentations have been useful tools negotiating these processes.

An architect can make a significant difference to the quality and cost of your project. Elements such as programme, co-ordinated trades, cost effective materials, impartial advice, accurate costing and supervision in hands of an architect almost certainly will save you money along the way.

Our project in Montpellier Gardens, Cheltenham is nearing completion. The first of a two phased conversion of this lodge into a restaurant promises to be a real attraction in this popular area. The garden room is now fully glazed including a glazed link (for a light touch to the historical building). See the Instagram feed for images.
